Find Balance with Yoga

September is National Yoga Month providing a reminder that yoga meets each of us exactly where we are and asks us to become more of who we truly are. Perfect timing, considering this is also when we shift from summer to fall.

The Northern Hemisphere will celebrate the Autumnal Equinox on Sunday, September 22. The equinox marks a point of perfect balance between day and night. This moment of equilibrium can inspire us to seek balance in our own lives, harmonizing our inner and outer worlds. This time of year is an invitation to honor the dark and light within and around us.

September can often feel like standing before the threshold of change. The shift in seasons offers us a reminder that life is in constant motion and with each new beginning comes the opportunity to let go and grow. Letting go isn’t always easy, but it can be an act of self-care by helping us embrace the unknown with the trust that something wonderful may be on the horizon.

This is also a time to balance who you could become and who you are right now, to set new intentions, and to step into the next chapter. Whether it’s embarking on a new project, deepening a relationship, or simply cultivating a new mindset, this month offers the perfect canvas for transformation.

Set aside time this week to consider what energy you need to bring to this moment to realize your potential and create the life you want to lead. What are you ready to let go of, and what are you excited to welcome into your life? That's something we'll be exploring during the retreat I'm leading this week in North Carolina, but you can do this at home as well.

Take a few minutes to sit quietly and visualize your ideal future. Who do you want to be? Who and what is around you? What are you doing and how do you feel? In this visualization ask, “What energy do I need to cultivate more of in my life today to become that person?” Notice that you don’t ask, “What do I need to do?” But rather, who do you need to be? Because once you've changed at your level of being, the outcome of what you do changes.

Leaning into yoga can help you find balance during this time of transition. Join me in October for a four-part series to explore the eight limbs of yoga as outlined in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras on Tuesdays October 1 - 22 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time. Each week, we'll explore two of the eight steps on the yogic path through discussion and practice. Learn how each step is relevant to you, and how you can apply the principles to find more joy in your daily life. All sessions will be held via Zoom so that you can join from wherever you are. If you can't attend all sessions live, recordings will be provided to those who register. Register here for $75.
