Are You Getting Enough Vitamin D? Why It Matters.

You may have seen the news that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved a new sunscreen ingredient, bemotrizinol. This chemical has been safely used in sunscreens sold in Europe, Australia, and some Asian countries.


This could be good news for ocean life. Bemotrizinol, an alternative to oxybenzone (which has been shown to be toxic to corals in lab studies), has not been linked to coral bleaching or disruption of marine life. Keep in mind that the term “reef-safe” isn’t regulated, and long-term ocean data on bemotrizinol is still emerging.
