Explore Costa Rica Yoga Adventure
Monteverde, Costa Rica
November 5 - 8, 2022
Following Firefly's annual Bliss, Balance and Beach retreat this year, we'll continue on to the Monteverde Cloud Forest. You can either join for the full 11 days, or create your own adventure, and join for just the four days we're in Monteverde.
If you're ready for an adventure, join us for four days in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. While there is almost no landscape that Costa Rica can't offer you, the crown jewels of the outdoors are the nation's cloud forests. We'll spend three nights at the Valle Escondido Nature Reserve, which protects 44 acres of land in Monteverde, offering inspiration, enjoyment and education of the rich biodiverse ecology of Monteverde, Costa Rica. The onsite trails are some of the best in Monteverde, moving through pristine primary forest, with open valley views and vistas of the pacific ocean.
At over 4,600 ft above sea level, you'll feel like you're on top of the world, but really, you've reached the central point of the nation's continental divide. Monteverde is a lot like the United States' Pacific Northwest region: evergreen due to the precipitation and moisture-filled clouds which hover over the horizon on an almost daily basis. Monteverde's cloud forests are the byproduct of fog (a thick, low-hanging cloud) tangling amongst the leaves and branches of the forest canopy.
What to Expect
There is more than one way to enjoy the beauty of Costa Rica's cloud forests, so whatever your energy level or ability, you won't find yourself excluded from this experience. Hike down forest trails or choose a canopy tour with a suspension bridge to experience the 2,500 species of plants (420 of which are orchids), 400 varieties of birds, and over 100 types of mammals that call the cloud forest home.
Retreat rate includes:
Group transportation from Blue Spirit for those who attend the Bliss, Balance and Beach Retreat
3 nights of lodging at Valle Escondido Hotel
Breakfast and dinner made from organic ingredients grown at the Valle Escondido Farm
Optional group hikes
Retreat rate does not include:
Transportation within Costa Rica other than what is listed above
A full schedule of meals, yoga classes and group activities will be provided closer to the retreat dates for registered participants.
Who this Retreat is For
This retreat is perfect for solo travelers, friends, or couples who are looking for more than a vacation. This four-day retreat option will appeal to travelers who want to experience the cloud forest in Costa Rica (without having to do the planning), and also desire to focus on health and wellness by practicing daily yoga. You can either tack this adventure onto your participation in the Bliss, Balance and Beach retreat, or decide to join us for just the four days we are in the Cloud Forest.
You'll have the opportunity to practice yoga every day, however, you do not need to be an expert at yoga to attend. The sessions will be appropriate for all levels of students - including beginners. Carrie’s style of teaching is fun and lighthearted, with a strong focus on alignment.
The afternoon/evening classes will be yin yoga, which are accessible for all levels of yoga practitioners. Holding in stretches will help your body recover from daily excursions, relieve tension and stress, improve flexibility and encourage mindfulness. There is always the option to skip sessions if you prefer to spend your time participating in another activity or resting. However, we think you will be happy you did if you choose to participate.
While there will be a strong focus on health and wellness, there will be no shortage of fun and adventure as we explore the wonderful activities Costa Rica has to offer.

About Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a destination internationally renowned for its friendly and genuine people and spectacular nature. While it may seem remote, Costa Rica is easily accessible from the United States and Canada, and attracts more eco-friendly and holistically oriented tourists each year. “Pura vida” is a characteristic Costa Rican phrase used both as a greeting or farewell, and as an answer to express that things are going well. Pura vida literally means pure life, however, the real meaning is closer to "full of life" or "this is living.” You will quickly see that pura vida is more than just a phrase – it is a way of life for the Ticos (Costa Ricans). You would be hard pressed to find a more friendly and welcoming culture.
Costa Rica is not only known for its beauty and ecological tourism, but also as a country whose values reflect many ideals embraced by those of us interested in world peace, environmental preservation, excellent education, and a high standard of health care. Costa Rica is at the forefront of environmental stewardship in Central America. It is committed to a major initiative to decrease its ecological footprint and become a leader in the “green” movement. It is unique in Central America as it has the longest uninterrupted democracy, no standing army in more than 50 years, and a 95% literacy rate. The official language is Spanish, but many of the people speak some English, a required course in all schools.
Even though Costa Rica is a small country, it has almost 5% of the world’s biodiversity. Much of the country is set aside forever into protected National Parks, wildlife refuges and nature reserves. Costa Rica’s year round temperate generally ranges from 70 – 80 degrees during the day, dropping down to 55 – 65 degrees at night.
